John is one of the company's founders with more than 25 years' experience of economic development and regeneration. His background is in economic analysis and strategy and programme development and he has led some of the company's highest profile assignments. He has a strong technical understanding of economic appraisal techniques and a practical understanding of the issues of efficiency and effectiveness of delivery arrangements.
John has considerable experience in project and programme development, and social and economic analysis to underpin and support local plans and strategies and appraisal and evaluation. He has a strong track record in the delivery of European Structural Funds commissions including acting as ERDF Technical Advisor for the Evergreen Fund for the JESSICA initiative in the North West and the Sheffield City Region Urban Development Fund. He also prepared the European Structural and Investment Fund strategies for Dorset, and Cheshire and Warrington as well as contributing to the development of the Strategic Economic Plans in these areas with each assignment requiring a detailed understanding of local conditions, engagement of stakeholders and appreciation of fund requirements.
He is able to draw on experience, lessons and examples of good practice from across the country. He has completed independent economic reviews in the North East and Sheffield City Region, continues to provide a technical advisor role to the Sheffield City Region and is assessing the implications of SuperPort development for Sefton. He has advised Manchester City Council and their partner organisations on a range of regeneration and development schemes: the ongoing development of the Etihad Campus, the Manchester Life initiative and the recently announced The Factory Manchester arts space development.
His recent work includes working with universities to support the advancement of a range of high profile developments: preparing the business plan for the National Graphene Institute (University of Manchester) and undertaking Green Book appraisals of the Engineering Innovation Centre (University of Central Lancashire).
