Election time: Economic development in the Labour and Conservative manifestos

As the election fast approaches, we have reviewed the two main party manifestos to consider key points for the economic development and growth agenda. Although Brexit and investment in public services continues to dominate much of the commentary, the party manifestos contain a range of policies that cover issues relating to economic development and growth, in areas such housing, infrastructure, skills and regional development that will inform client activities and our future workload.

Although there is a degree of consensus on the need to address housing shortages, invest in infrastructure, create a skilled workforce and increase local decision-making powers, there are key differences in the Conservative and Labour outlooks. Plus, there are differing positions on trade as part of the Brexit negotiations and migration policy that will impact on the function of the UK economy more widely.
