The Metro Mayors are Coming!

 

Today marks an exciting and pivotal moment for devolution, with elections taking place to appoint 6 new Combined Authority mayors in Greater Manchester, the Liverpool City Region, the West Midlands, Tees Valley, the West of England and Cambridge and Peterborough.

The new metro mayors will sit alongside local authority leaders in these areas to lead the recently formed Combined Authorities, with devolved powers from Government in relation to public services, transport and housing. The mayors will be responsible for making strategic decisions across their City Regions, with each Mayor’s specific powers and responsibilities agreed in a deal with Government. Powers agreed to date include:
